The center’s director, researcher Riyad Al-Ashqar, explained in a report issued on the occasion of World Cancer Day, which falls on November 4 each year, that prisoners with cancer are subjected to a policy of “slow death” as a result of deliberate medical neglect, the severity of their health conditions, and harsh detention conditions that deprive them of the most basic necessities of life, without any distinction between sick and healthy prisoners.

**12. Calls on Congress to release Palestinian “Luqaa Kordia” for her participation in solidarity protests**
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues to detain Luqaa Kordia, a 32-year-old Palestinian woman residing in New Jersey, at a detention center in Texas since March 2025, after she was summoned to an immigration office regarding her legal status. Kordia was arrested and detained despite the absence of any evidence that she poses a threat to public security or has a criminal record. Human rights groups consider her detention a retaliatory response to her participation in peaceful pro-Palestinian protests, including a demonstration outside Columbia University in April 2024 against the war on Gaza. A federal judge previously ordered her release twice, but ICE used administrative measures to prevent her release. The group “Code Pink” is calling for action to secure her release by contacting members of Congress and raising awareness of her case.
