Led by Chilean lawyer and former ambassador Nelson Haddad, the initiative called on the UN to activate Article 6 of its Charter, which allows for the expulsion of any “state” that systematically violates the principles upon which the organization was founded.
Campaign organizers stressed that this step is not only an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people, but also part of achieving justice and enforcing international law, emphasizing that the international community cannot continue to observe occupation crimes against Palestinians without accountability.
The initiative noted that since 1948 Palestinians have faced occupation, colonialism, and forced displacement, alongside over seven decades of documented violations of UN resolutions and policies of apartheid and discrimination, according to reports by human rights organizations and UN experts.
