The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to grow more complex two months after the ceasefire came into effect, as forced displacement continues and living conditions worsen, according to Amjad Al-Shawa, director of the Palestinian NGO Network in Gaza.
The occupation has confined hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to 41% of the Strip’s area (less than 100 square kilometers) under harsher conditions. More than half a million people have lost their homes, while thousands are living in the remains of their destroyed houses, Al-Shawa confirmed in an interview with Al Jazeera.
Due to shortages of materials, rising prices, and the loss of livelihoods, 90% of the population is unable to purchase basic necessities. The health crisis is also worsening due to the spread of waste and the destruction of water and sewage networks, according to Al-Shawa.
